Vnukovo Terminal A starts work in test mode

The new Terminal A of Moscow Airport Vnukovo has started work in test mode. Every day, it is going to receive a few flights.

In late July, the terminal will start serving passengers of domestic flights. Only after the completion of administrative procedures, flights abroad will become possible. Such flights are highly dependant on organization of the border checkpoint and customs services.

At the end of June, a notorious scandal associated with Leningrad highway became the talk of the town. Mikhail Vasilenko, the director of Airport Sheremetyevo, accused the authorities of Moscow of artificial and purposeful creation of traffic jams in Leningrad highway. Because of this, many passengers and even pilots were late for their flights.

Vasilenko believes that through traffic in Leningrad highway the authorities wanted to draw attention to Airport Vnukovo on the eve of the opening of the new terminal.

In fact, Vnukovo belongs to the Government of Moscow in contrast to Sheremetyevo, which is controlled by federal authorities.

The construction of the terminal at Vnukovo began in February 2006.

According to the 2009 assessment, Airport Vnukovo served over 7,731,000 passengers. In turn, the Sheremetyevo airport served 14,764,000 travelers.
