G-8 Summit to begin in Canada

Dmitry Medvedev and his wife have landed at the airport of Toronto. The Russian President will take part in the G-8 and the G-20 summits.

The G-8 summit starts today in the Canadian city of Huntsville. Within the framework of this meeting, the leaders of Canada, Russia, the USA, Great Britain, Germany, France, Japan and Italy will discuss a number of important issues. The discussions will touch upon the topics of international safety, the economy crisis, as well as the problem of global climate changes.

The G-8 is an international club which before 2010 united the governments of the most industrially developed democracies of the world (The Group of Seven or the Big Seven (G-7)), and Russia. The same name was given to an informal forum of the leaders of these countries, the framework of which helped coordinate the approaches to urgent international problems.

Besides, the summit of the Big Twenty will begin on June 26 in Toronto. The president of Russia Dmitry Medvedev is going to take part in both summits.
