James Cameron celebrates his birthday at Baikal in Siberia
James Cameron has celebrated his 56th birthday in Russia. To get a new experience, the Oscar-winning film director went to Lake Baikal. It is Cameron's first visit to the great Russian lake. The celebrations on the occasion were arranged in a restaurant in the village Listvyanka. The guests and the hero of the day were satisfied with a cheerful evening in Cossack style. Cameron has been named Chieftain Gregory Kameronsky.
The most significant event was Cameron's dive to the bottom of Lake Baikal on board the deep submersible Mir (Rus. World) 1. The director had already had to work with the Mirs during the filming of the Titanic. By the way, Anatoly Sagalevich, the Russian scientist and explorer who participated in the creation of the Titanic, this time was the pilot of the Mir 1. For four and a half hours, Cameron enjoyed the underwater beauty of Lake Baikal. His friends – the Avatar team-mates, Michael McDowell and Mary Wilhelm, kept pace with the birthday child. They made the crew of Mir 2, which also went underwater.
The American director said later that the underwater journey finally consolidated his idea of an Avatar sequel. Cameron assumed that the second film will be most likely filmed almost completely below the surface.
