MPs vote for chemical castration of pedophiles
October 4, the State Duma approved in first reading the bill on tougher sentences for serious crimes of sexual nature with regard to persons under 14 years old.The bill, which was introduced to the Russian parliament by President Dmitri Medvedev, includes the following items: the possibility of chemical castration of certain offenders as well as a mandatory chemical castration of people who have committed sexual offenses against children under the age of 14 years.
In addition, according to the new bill, pedophiles will be ineligible for a conditional or suspended sentence, and to be eligible for parole, the offender shall stay in jail not less than 80 percent of the time, while recidivist pedophiles will be awaiting a life sentence.
